The trick with using Sticky Flames is to unlearn the way you've been using the flamethrower. Instead of spraying the enemy directly, you instead anticipate the enemy's path, and pour some sticky fire there, so that when they walk through that flame, the die very quickly. Sticky Flame can delete swarms of enemies, using only about 20 ammo. It's unreasonably ammo-efficient if you use it right, despite not using a single ammo mod. For any enemy that manages to survive the wall of fire you put up, Subata with Volatile Bullets in T5 is there to finish them off.
Sticky Flame also works surprisingly well against Dreadnoughts, provided your team isn't braindead. What you do is you pour a line of flame in front of the Dreadnought and along its path (its path is to the dwarf its aggroed against) and it slows to a crawl, allowing your team to pump serious damage into it.
